The layout of this restaurant creates a more private atmosphere compared to other restaurants with an open seating plan. The menu is pretty extensive but typical of a Mexican restaurant. The chips were hot and thick and the salsa was good as well. I had the pollo asado and my friend had the three meat fajita. The food came out fast and hot and was good. Not too salty which I prefer. The portions were large and the prices were very reasonable. Unlike the first review, service was pretty good. Our water glasses were never empty.

You want good Mexican? This is the place! Generous portions at affordable prices! By far the best Mexican food in the Des Moines area! High back booths makes your dining experience feel private, quiet atmosphere, clean and dust free. Staff is friendly and very on top of things!

I had a great lunch and so much fun at Pueblo Viejo. I was just visiting for the weekend and I was so lucky my friend took me there. The food was awesome and the relaxed and fun staff made me feel at home. The layout is really cool and unique because your table feels private. I don't like going to restaurants where you feel like everyone can hear your conversation. Go to Pueblo Viejo now!

Service was prompt and attentive. Food was delicious, hot, and affordable. Portions were hearty. Food arrived so quickly you'd swear they knew what you wanted before you ordered. Left very satisfied and in a timely matter. I'll be back!

Had several family outings here over the years... celebrated graduations and even my rehersal dinner was here. Great staff! Very fast efficient service. Delicious food! Priced fairly! What more could you ask for!? Oh yes... it's clean as well Can't forget that!

My friends and I accidentally stumbled upon this place on a Saturday afternoon, and I've been obsessed with it ever since. Their carne asada has an amazing char to it (my go-to is the Burrito Jalisco), and the shredded pork melts in your mouth. It's a few dollars more than many of the other Mexican restaurants in town, but the quality makes it so worth it.

This place is one of my favorite spots in Des Moines! Their menu is extensive but everything I've had is so delicious! There are multiple AMAZING Mexican food trucks in this area, so they have competition. Yet they remain busy! The employees are friendly and always excited to help you. Fantastic blended margaritas, too!

Ate here after leaving Adventureland. We love Mexican and this place was awesome. Great service, extensive drink menu and authentic Mexican food. When we come back to the area, this will be our Mexican spot.

Don't believe the positive reviews. While they do have large portions, they're not good. Taco Bell is even better. I judge Mexican restaurants based on their rice and beans, something very simple but delicious if done correctly. Theirs are terrible. Chips and salsa also terrible. The burrito only had chicken in it, no rice, no beans, just meat rapped with a tortilla with cheese on it. If you want good Mexican food, go to Tacos Mariana's.

Good food, big portions...but the service is HORRIBLE eeeevery single time. You can see them standing in a group just chit chatting away several minutes before they even come take your drink order and you're lucky if you get them refilled again. This isn't just a one or two time occurance. I've been there 5-8 times and finally just got so annoyed that I haven't been back. So if you have all the time in the world and enjoy being parched, this is the place for you!

This place is fabulous. Great food and great atmosphere. The service is good, but only because they get real busy. They are attentive enough. Best place in town for Mexican food.

It was about 2 years ago when I first ate here. This is actually the first place in my life that I've eaten at a "real" Mexican restaurant. I say "real" as in I have never had places like 5 de Mayo or La Hacienda before this place. I'm sure authentic Mexican restaurants are much different than these places in the U.S. Their food was hot and flavorful. The service was friendly and food came out quick! The seating is comfortable with almost all booth seating. I am glad I tried this place because it was my first step into trying all these Mexican places around town.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
